Online Training

 

The Norwich Opportunity Area is able to offer access to free, online speech, language and communication training to staff in any school or setting in Norfolk.

 

Training has been written by The Communication Trust and will include:

  • Core modules: understanding speech, language and communication; identification and assessment of need; the communication environment; strategies and support for children with SLCN.

  • Intermediate modules: attention, listening and understanding; vocabulary and expressive language; speech sounds and involving children with SLCN.

 

Once accessed, training modules can be completed at any time convenient to the participant.

Hub Training

Offers

Schools and settings who attend network meetings hosted by any of the Communication Hubs are able to book free training in the summer and autumn terms.

Autism Anglia Training 

  • An Introduction to Autism; 9th June; 6-7:30pm; Online (20 spaces)

  • Sensory Systems and Processing; 16th June; 6-7:30pm; Online (20 spaces)

  • Communication; 23rd June; 6-7:30pm; Online (20 spaces)

Word Aware Training 

  • EYFS Word Aware; 12th July; 9-4pm; Online (20 spaces)

  • KS1 Word Aware; 20th July 9-4pm; Online (20 spaces)

Signalong Introductory Workshop

  • Signalong Introductory Workshop; 16th June; 4-6pm

  • This is a Zoom workshop with trainers from The Hamlet Centre. It will be an introduction to Signalong and will include:
    - Free Online Handbook – Resources with free signs  
    - Hand placement and Movement.
    - Sign a Song 
    - Additional Signs and Question time.

If you are offered a place, you will be sent a booking form to complete for each participant.

 

Certified Signalong Phase 1 Training (15hours)

  • 5-8pm over 5 sessions:
    Monday 13th September
    Tuesday 14th September
    Monday 20th September
    Tuesday 21st September
    Tuesday 28th September

  • These sessions will be held IN PERSON at the Hamlet Centre, Norwich due to the nature of this training (e.g. hand placement etc). 

  • All sessions must be attended to gain certification. 

  • 10 spaces available.

  • Signalong book included.

Talk Boost Training 

  • Early Years Talk Boost Training; 21st and 22nd June (both sessions must be attended); 6:30-8:30pm; Online (6 spaces left)

  • Please note, due to long ordering times, these 6 spaces will only be allocated to practitioners who already have an Early Years Talk Boost Resource Pack.

Elklan Training – For NOA Schools/Settings Only
(Please note, this is an NOA-led offer, not a hub offer)

  • Funding is available for up to 2 members of staff per NOA school/setting to complete Elklan training focused on supporting the 0-5 cohort. 

  • The training must be sourced and booked by the school/setting by 2nd July 2021, but the training can take place in either the summer or autumn term (2021).
